Society Chicago South Chapter
Illinois State Legislator's Dinner and Panel Discussion
By:
Dave Chess
ICPAS Chicago South Legislative Chairperson
Senator
Edward D. Maloney (D) 18th District and
Representative Kevin Joyce (D) 35th District
attended the Illinois CPA Society Chicago South Chapter
Illinois State Legislator’s Dinner and Panel Discussion held
September 20, 2007 at Palos Country Club.
Both
legislators were given the opportunity to speak. They
described the scope of their responsibilities and areas
their districts encompass.
It was
clear from their discussion that they were frustrated over
this year’s budget process. They are struggling to find ways
to generate revenue to cover the deficit and the process has
dragged out months longer than it has in the past.
Connie
McKamy, Director Government Relations, Legislative Contacts
and Communications, from the ICPAS Springfield office
coordinated the Legislative dinner with the chapter and
arranged for the speaker. This meeting would not have been
possible without her help.
Jennifer
Schultz, Vice President, Member Benefits and Services -
Illinois CPA Society, spoke about recent legislative
achievements. She spoke about the Society’s efforts to pass
CPA mobility legislation and answered questions concerning
the difference between CPAs registering and licensing.
Also in
attendance were representatives from the Illinois CPA
Society:
Todd
Shapiro - CFO and Vice President Business Development and
Administration
Irwin Fong
- Controller
Ron
Jankowski - Director, Membership Marketing
Kimberly
Johnson - Manager of Membership Marketing Services
A total of
thirty two members attended including ten past presidents.
